Learning Sanskrit with the help of the Aṣṭāṅgahṛdaya
Ayurveda is a system of medicines originated 5,000 years ago in the Indian civilization. Ayurveda literally means knowledge of life is formed by the words - Ayu, which means life and Veda, which means knowledge. Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita are one of the major texts in Ayurveda which are originally written in the Sanskrit language.
This course brings you the knowledge of Ayurveda by learning Sanskrit with the direct reference of Ashtangahridaya (Aṣṭāṅgāhṛdaya). This text, written in a simple poetic way, is based on both Charaka and Sushruta Samhita. The aim is to learn Sanskrit in order to develop ease to deal with Sanskrit texts in Ayurveda. It will start with the training of basic pronunciation of Sanskrit sounds. And then the building blocks of Sanskrit grammar like Nominal Declension, Verbal Conjugation, Sandhi and Karaka will be taught so that students can identify forms in the verse, dissolve Sandhis and construct the verse. This training will make you independent in understanding the basic Sanskrit text in the Ayurveda.
