Imagine, six months from now…

Your child folds their hands and chants quietly before leaving for school.
On a video call with grandparents in India, they recite a shloka together - and a small silence falls.
They know not just the words, but what each verse means - and which moment of the day it belongs to.
They begin to feel that the culture you carry is also, quietly, becoming theirs.
Why This, Why Now

You Chanted These as a Child.
Passing Them On Is Harder From Here.

You grew up hearing shlokas at home, in the temple, before meals and studies. Your child is growing up somewhere else entirely - speaking English all day, with no neighbourhood teacher to sit them down and teach the verses you still remember by heart.

It is not that the wish has faded. It is that, eight thousand miles from home, there has simply been no easy place to begin. This workshop is that place - a calm, structured first step, designed for children, taught live, with patience.

“I want my child to chant the way I did” - this is where that begins.

A child chanting shlokas with folded hands at home

A few quiet minutes each evening - that is all it takes to begin.

What Your Child Takes Away

More Than Recitation

Six shlokas are the starting point. What grows around them - pronunciation, memory, focus, and a felt connection to where they come from - is what stays.

Correct Pronunciation

Each shloka is taught sound by sound, so your child learns to recite with the same clarity and rhythm you remember - not approximations picked up by ear.

A Connection to Their Roots

The shlokas open a door into India’s heritage - a living, daily thread back to a culture your child may only glimpse from a distance otherwise.

The Stories Behind the Verses

Each shloka comes with its meaning, the deity it honours, their vahana and the tales around them - the kind of stories children remember for life.

Sharper Memory & Focus

Memorising and reciting rhythmic verse asks for steady attention - quietly strengthening concentration and recall along the way.

Quiet Confidence

Mastering something that once felt unfamiliar gives children a real sense of accomplishment - one they carry into everything else they try.

A Gentle First Step into Sanskrit

No prior knowledge is needed. This is a beginner’s start - a foundation your child can build on whenever they are ready for more.

The Six Shlokas

Verses for the Rhythm of a Child’s Day

Each of these shlokas belongs to a moment - waking, bathing, beginning study. Simple, beloved, and chosen so a 7–13 year old can learn them with ease.

1

समुद्रवसने देवि

samudra-vasane devi

On waking - a prayer to Bhumi Devi, the Earth, before placing your feet upon the ground.

2

गङ्गे च यमुने चैव

gaṅge ca yamune caiva

While bathing - remembering the sacred rivers, a verse for the morning bath.

3

नमस्ते शारदे देवि

namaste śārade devi

Before studying - a prayer to Goddess Saraswati for learning and clear thought.

4

राम रामेति रामेति

rāma rāmeti rāmeti

Dedicated to Shri Rama - one of the most loved verses in every Indian home.

5

रक्ष रक्ष गणाध्यक्ष

rakṣa rakṣa gaṇādhyakṣa

Dedicated to Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, honoured before all beginnings.

6

कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारम्

karpūragauraṃ karuṇāvatāram

Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati, pure as camphor and compassionate as the heart itself.

Beyond reciting, your child will also learn…

  • The meaning of each verse - what the words actually say, in simple English.
  • When to recite each shloka - morning, before study, before meals - and why it fits that moment.
  • The deity behind each shloka - their story, their vahana (divine vehicle), and what they represent.
  • Memorisation - so by the last day, your child can recite all six with confidence.

Sharvari teaches Vedanta Philosophy as visiting faculty at the University of Mumbai. Over eight years she has taught Sanskrit to students from every kind of background - from retirees in Pune to working professionals in California - and has a rare gift for making a language - often thought forbidding - feel approachable, joyful, and alive.

Sanskrit isn’t difficult - it’s just unfamiliar. I begin where the child is, with pictures and patience, and the language slowly starts to feel like a friend. By the last day, every child has chanted at least one shloka with confidence - and that small moment is what stays. - Sharvari Pitale

Her method is patient, pictorial, and encouraging. She begins exactly where a child is, never where a textbook assumes they should be. Hundreds of students credit her gentle teaching with finally removing their hesitation - and helping them feel completely at ease with the language they always wanted to learn.

Is This Right for My Child?

Honest Guidance Before You Enrol

A good fit if…

  • Your child is between 7 and 13 years old
  • You want them to connect with their roots through shlokas and the stories behind them
  • You chanted these verses growing up and would love your child to do the same
  • Your child is a complete beginner - this starts at the very beginning
  • Your child speaks mainly English - no Hindi or Sanskrit background is needed

Not the right fit if…

  • Your child is younger than 7 or older than 13 (other batches are planned - do reach out)
  • You are looking for Bhagavad Gita verses or Vedic mantra chanting - this workshop covers beginner children’s shlokas only
  • You expect Sanskrit fluency or reading and translation - this is a short recitation workshop, not a full language course

This workshop is a beginning, not a finishing line. Its job is to light the spark - gently, and well.

Questions Parents Ask

Frequently Asked

What exactly will my child learn?
Your child will learn to recite six popular shlokas with correct pronunciation, commit them to memory, and understand their meanings - along with the stories of the deities each one honours. It is a warm, beginner-friendly introduction designed specifically for children aged 7 to 13.
My child was born here and doesn’t know Hindi. Can they still join?
Absolutely. The medium of instruction is English, and no Hindi or Sanskrit background is needed. Pronunciation is taught by listening, repeating, and gentle correction - exactly the way children learn best.
My child is shy and may not want to speak in front of others. Is that okay?
Completely okay. With just 10 children in the batch, the atmosphere is small and friendly - not a performance. Sharvari moves at each child’s comfort. Children who arrive shy on Monday usually surprise their parents by Friday.
Why only 10 children per batch?
Because pronunciation is something only a teacher can correct - not a video or a recording. Ten is the largest number where Sharvari can listen to each child chant, every day, and gently correct them individually. It is the difference between learning shlokas and learning them correctly.
What is the schedule and where are classes held?
It is a one-week workshop, Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM US Eastern each day. Your local time is shown at the top of this page. Classes are held live on Zoom.
Is the WhatsApp group safe for my child?
The WhatsApp group is parent-monitored. You join with your number - not your child’s. You receive the daily practice prompts and share your child’s recordings. Sharvari and the team send corrections back to you. Your child never chats directly in the group.
How do we join after paying?
Once your payment is confirmed, you’ll be added to a WhatsApp group the same day, where all class details, the Zoom link, and reminders are shared.
What if my child misses a class?
Every session is recorded and stays available for six months, so your child can catch up or revise at any time that suits your family’s schedule.
Are there any prerequisites?
None at all. This workshop is for absolute beginners. Your child needs no prior Sanskrit, Hindi, or chanting experience - only curiosity and a willingness to try.
Is there a certificate?
Yes. On the final day every participant receives a Certificate of Participation.
Will this teach Bhagavad Gita verses or Vedic mantras?
No. This is a beginner workshop covering the six children’s shlokas listed above. It does not cover Bhagavad Gita verses or Vedic mantra chanting. Think of it as a first, joyful step - not an advanced programme.
What does it cost, and is the fee refundable?
The workshop is $75 USD, paid securely via Stripe. The fee is non-refundable, so please do reach out with any questions before enrolling - we’re glad to help you decide if it’s the right fit.
Still have a question?
We’d be happy to help - just contact us and we’ll get back to you.
