Introduction to Sanskrit Grammar Tradition

Free Online Course

  • In this course, learn how Panini did a scientific study of Sanskrit language in his book - Ashtadhyayi more than 2000 years ago that still finds relevance in the modern world!

Pāṇini is one of the most celebrated linguists in the world. Pāṇini’s Aṣṭādhyāyī is one of the greatest monuments of human intelligence! Categorically, it can be said that Pāṇini laid the firm foundation for the entire Indian knowledge system which was, undeniably, helpful for the evolution and development of several Indian śāstra-s. According to Pāṇini, Language is the sky and his grammar is a window to look at the sky. His universal approach to observe a Language and his omnidirectional methods were vital to keep the Aṣṭādhyāyī as a time-tested text! The main aim of this course is to introduce the structure of Ashtadhyayi and richness of the Indian linguistic tradition for those who are not Sanskrit scholars but are curious to know about the scientific literature in Sanskrit.
